Hofmann Helps for the Holidays!

It’s hard to believe that 2017 is almost at an end, and that we’re in the middle of the holiday season! During this time of year, with the hustle and bustle to prepare for the season’s festivities it’s easy to forget to extend a helping hand to those in need.

E Hofmann Plastics was happy to play Santa for two organizations in Orangeville that go the extra mile all year round to help those in a bind – Choices Youth Shelter and Family Transitions Place.

Choices Youth Shelter is a non-for-profit agency that provides emergency shelter for youths between the ages of 16-24 years old. Choices offers three levels of housing: the first being the emergency shelter, where youths are able to live and learn important life skills, and are still expected to be out between 830am and 5pm either working or in school. The second stage is the Transitional Home for youths and offers 7 rooms for rent in a structured program. And recently, Choices has introduced Semi Permanent Housing Program where those youth who are currently working, or in school, but are unable to pass the reference or credit check aspect of renting, are able to live in affordable housing.

Our second stop was the Family Transitions Place, which has been providing critical services to women and their children since 1984. Along with offering a safe space and professional help, they also offer programs for people of all ages in healthy relationship education, as well as two male oriented counselling programs. FTP also offers Second Stage Housing for abused women and children looking for affordable housing while getting back on their feet; as well as Transitional, Legal, and Housing Support services.

We were lucky enough to visit both facilities and take a closer look at the work they do, and were blown away by the effort put forward by both teams to ensure the residents were safe, and were given the help and skills they needed to thrive.
